Ο πύρινος εφιάλτης ξαναξύπνησε στη Ζάκυνθο πιο καταστροφικός από κάθε άλλη φορά. Τουλάχιστον δύο σπίτια, δύο καταστήματα και πολλές κτηνοτροφικές μονάδες καταστράφηκαν ολοσχερώς στο χωριό της Αναφωνήτριας, στην ορεινή Ζάκυνθο στη νέα μεγάλη πυρκαγιά που ξέσπασε το πρωί του Σαββάτου. Η οδηγία για εκκένωση του χωριού δόθηκε από τα πρώτα λεπτά όταν διαπιστώθηκε ότι οι τεράστιες φλόγες κατευθύνονταν απειλητικά προς τα πρώτα σπίτια, με τους ισχυρούς ανέμους να επιταχύνουν την πορεία της. Οι φλόγες έφτασαν στα σπίτια μέσα σε ελάχιστα λεπτά με τους τελευταίους κατοίκους να προσπαθούν, μέχρι την ύστατη στιγμή, να σώσουν τις περιουσίες τους.
Όμως οι φλόγες με ύψος πάνω από 20 μέτρα δεν άφηναν περιθώρια για περισσότερη καθυστέρηση και έτσι απομακρύνονταν τα τελευταία δευτερόλεπτα πριν και οι ίδιοι βρεθούν σε κίνδυνο.Μέχρι στιγμής δεν κινδυνεύουν κάτοικοι ενώ ασθενοφόρο του ΕΚΑΒ βρίσκεται στην περιοχή για παν ενδεχόμενο.
Τραγική εικόνα αποτελεί το γεγονός πως οι φλόγες έχουν «αγκαλιάσει» το μοναστήρι της Αναφωνήτριας εκεί όπου ο Άγιος Διονύσιος ασκήτεψε και συγχώρεσε το φονιά του αδελφού του. Επικρατεί στην κυριολεξία ένας πανικός με ανθρώπους που έχουν χάσει το βιος τους και δεν ξέρουν τι να κάνουν. Υπάρχουν αναφορές πως ένα μέτωπο της φωτιάς η οποία έχει ανοίξει κινείται προς την περιοχή του Ναυαγίου, ενώ τα άλλα προς Μαριές και Ορθονιές.
Απόγνωση και οργή επικρατούν στους κατοίκους της Ζακύνθου για το νέο μπαράζ πυρκαγιών που κατακαίνε τις δασικές της εκτάσεις αλλά και θέτουν σε κίνδυνο ολόκληρα χωριά. Για εμπρησμό μιλούν αρχές αλλά και η πυροσβεστική, ωστόσο τα προβλήματα δεν σταματούν εδώ. Μεγάλη ένταση επικράτησε το πρωί στην Αναφωνήτρια, όσο μαινόταν η τεράστια πυρκαγιά που έκαψε ακόμη και σπίτια, όταν διακόπηκε η παροχή νερού στο χωριό ώστε να ανεφοδιάζονται απρόσκοπτα τα πυροσβεστικά οχήματα.
Από το πρωί επιχειρούσαν στην περιοχή 2 ελικόπτερα ερικσον και ένα ρωσικό, πραγματοποιώντας ρίψεις νερού από αέρος, ωστόσο η φωτιά μεταδόθηκε ταχύτατα σε παρακείμενο λόφο και ο εφιάλτης ξεκίνησε και πάλι, ενώ γα αρκετή ώρα δεν επιχειρούσε πλέον κανένα εναέριο μέσο. Σύμφωνα με έκτακτη οδηγία της Γενικής Γραμματείας Πολιτικής Προστασίας, οι ισχυροί άνεμοι που πνέουν στην περιοχή θα συνεχιστούν και τις επόμενες ημέρες. Στο σημείο βρέθηκε ο Δήμαρχος Ζακύνθου, Παύλος Κολοκοτσάς που δεν έκρυψε την οργή του για την απροθυμία υδρομεταφορέων να συμμετάσχουν στις προσπάθειες κατάσβεσης. Οι κάτοικοι διαμαρτύρονταν και για την έλλειψη εναέριων μέσων που για περισσότερο από μία ώρα σταμάτησαν τις ρίψεις. Πολλοί από αυτούς έχασαν σημαντικό ζωικό βασίλειο.
Τα μέτωπα μέχρι στιγμής είναι τρία ένα προς τη Βολίμα, ένα που έχει περικυκλώσει την Αναφωνήτρια και ένα προς τις Μαριές που κατευθύνεται προς τα ορεινά του Ναυαγίου. Παράλληλα, λίγο μετά τις 5 ξέσπασε νέα μεγάλη πυρκαγιά στις Ορθωνιές. Όλα τα μέτωπα μαίνονται εκτός ελέγχου με τις επίγειες πυροσβεστικές δυνάμεις από τη Ζάκυνθο αλλά και γειτονικούς νομούς να μάχονται για τη θέσουν σε έλεγχο.
