Υπό μερικό έλεγχο έχει τεθεί η μεγάλη πυρκαγιά που ξέσπασε γύρω στις 15.00 το μεσημέρι στην περιοχή του Ξηρομέρου, μεταξύ Μαχαιράς και Φυτειών, κοντά στην Ιερά Μονή Λιγοβιτσίου.
Η φωτιά έλαβε γρήγορα ανησυχητικές διαστάσεις, εξαιτίας και των ισχυρών ανέμων, με ένα κυρίως μέτωπο που επεκτάθηκε σε μήκος τριών περίπου χιλιομέτρων.
Έχει κάψει έκταση χαμηλής βλάστησης άνω των 1000 στρεμμάτων, χωρίς να επεκταθεί σε καλλιέργειες, μακριά από κατοικημένες περιοχές. Στις ζημιές περιλαμβάνεται και ένα φωτοβολταϊκό.
Στην κατάσβεση συμμετέχει μεγάλη δύναμη της Πυροσβεστικής με άνδρες και οχήματα από Αγρίνιο, Μεσολόγγι και Αμφιλοχία ενώ γίνονται ρίψεις και από δύο αεροσκάφη καναντέρ που έσπευσαν από Ανδραβίδα, ένα ελικόπτερο επίσης από Ανδραβίδα, ενώ από αέρος επιχειρούν και τα δύο πετζετέλ που έχουν μόνιμη έδρα στο Άκτιο. Συνεισέφεραν επίσης υδροφόρες του δήμου Ξηρομέρου και της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας.
Την προσπάθεια της κατάσβεσης συντονίζει ο Διοικητής Περιφερειακής Διοίκησης Πυροσβεστικών Υπηρεσιών Δυτικής Ελλάδας Βασίλης Ματθαιόπουλος ενώ στο σημείο βρίσκεται και ο προϊστάμενος Πολιτικής Προστασίας της Π.Ε.Αιυωλοακαρνανίας Γ.Τέγας και υπηρεσιακός αξιωματικός της Π.Υ. Αγρινίου.
